Chickenpox is the common name for Varicella simplex, a disease that mainly affects children. Until recently, chickenpox manifested itself so frequently as a disease, that it came to be recognized almost as a rite of passage for childhood.

Parents knew the first symptom: the red itchy rashes that would spread across the back, the chest, and the scalp; the smaller signs of sickness: the fever, the loss of appetites and finally the scars it would leave behind. Most parents raised their children, accepting chickenpox as a fact of life.

 

The year 1995 saw the development of a chickenpox vaccine, which turned out to be a safe, effective way to prevent chickenpox and its possible complications. Even in cases where the vaccine does not stop the disease’s progress completely, the surviving infections are known to be much milder than those of the past.

 

Chickenpox is believed to have been named after chick peas. The specks that appear after the contagion make the skin look as though chickens have pecked it.

 

There is usually a 10-14 day incubation period before symptoms can be noticed. The disease is highly contagious and spreads by air.

 

Chickenpox starts off with a few red spots or bumps (often mistaken for insect bites). The appearance of fever is common. The signs then proceed from bumps to blisters and on day 4 the original blisters will start to crust over. By the end of the week, most or all of the blisters will be crusted over. The fever is known to last for 5 days.

 

Doctors are known to prescribe an antihistamine to relieve itching but other than that, chickenpox requires no medical treatment in healthy children and should simply be allowed to run its course. Parents should be wary of any treatments involving aspirin, due to the risk of developing Reye’s syndrome.

 

In case of complications (such as pneumonia and encephalitis) or exacerbation of symptoms, parents are advised to seek their doctor’s attention. However, serious illnesses are more common in older children and adults.

Do it right and you can blow trains of thought totally out of the water. You can disrupt conversations and generally drive people nuts. Just wait until later to start laughing! (Try it - it’s funny. Maturity is highly overrated.)

Fifth, raw vegetables provide a lot of good fiber and roughage.

Don’t forget, they taste better too!

Your goal…try to eat at least one raw vegetable at each meal.

Always be sure to wash your vegetables thoroughly. When you get them from the store, they DO have chemical and pesticide residues on them. If you want a healthier alternative, go organic.

The average diet doesn’t provide all the nutrients we need, so if you don’t take a daily vitamin supplement, it would probably be a good idea to start.

Eating healthy foods that speed up metabolism will provide your diet with more of the nutrients your body needs. You shouldn’t give up the vitamins, but you won’t be in such dire straights.

Just make it a point to eat your veggies raw and soon you could be one of those irritating people who are full of energy and leap out of bed in the morning.

Chest Workout That You Can Do At Home

Looking for a chest workout that you can do at home? Your local gym with all the machines imaginable is perfect of course, but sometimes you probably just don’t have the time or the motivation to get there. Working out at home can save you a lot of time and money.

So here is a quick but super effective alternative - and all you will need is a cheap set of dumbbells. Have the dumbbells laid out right there ready, on pillows to make them easier to pick up and put down. Pillows can also prevent damage to your floor.

Note that because the pushups will take the first flush of your energy, you will need a much lighter weight than you normally use for the dumbbell exercises.

1. Pushups

Take your position on a carpeted floor or exercise mat and do as many pushups as you can do while maintaining form. Take them slow. When you cannot do this without cheating or losing form it is time to stop.

Turn onto your back and move straight on to the dumbbell flys, no rest.

2. Flys

You should be able to do this exercise slowly, taking 3-5 seconds to raise and lower the weights, without using other parts of your body to handle the pressure. If you cannot do this you need a lighter weight.

Again do as many as you can without sacrificing form, then move straight on to the dumbbell press, do not put down the dumbbells between.

3. Dumbbell press

Start the dumbbell presses, raising the weights directly up vertically without a break, with elbows coming down onto the floor. Be sure and have your forearms vertical. Again take it slow and stop when you risk losing form.

4. Repeat

Give yourself 3-5 minutes rest and then repeat the whole series. You can do anything up to 8 reps depending on condition but expect to feel it the next day.

This workout will work your chest muscles in isolation and so maximize your muscle growth but you must be sure to use light enough weights otherwise the effect will be reduced. Doing the exercises slowly is vital for maximum growth. As with all dumbbell exercises, better to do fewer reps and do them right than rush your workout, losing the benefits and risking injuries.

Doing these dumbbell exercises on the floor will control your range of movement and help to prevent shoulder injury. However, always consult with a doctor before starting any exercise or bodybuilding program including this home chest workout.

If a close relative is doing the same thing, you may threaten them you will stop visiting if they won’t stop.

6. Restrict your child from watching TV commercials. Yes, commercials. These commercials are the source for nutritional education of 95% of the populace. Whenever children watch kiddie shows, they get to see junk foods being advertised as delicious food to eat and it can affect their craving for the right food.

7. Be a great example. This is the most vital tip. Children will never give up on candy and ice cream if they can see their parents are not doing it too. You can only get them to eat fish, veggies and whole grains if they see you eating it too. While young, you will have to show them how a good role model you are.

If you have not been a good role model, then you have no right to get angry over the poor eating habits of your child, obesity, ADHD and you will often be absent from work when they get sick.
