How Using Fresh Flowers can Enhance your Outdoor Area

When springtime comes, one of the first things I want to do is to go out and get some fresh flowers for my home. I don’t mind winter so much, and I always loved the snow when I was a kid, but there comes a time when you have had enough and you long for warmer weather. I love the first snowfall of the year, but I love even more the first signs of flowers popping up in the yards in my neighborhood with groomsmen gifts in mind. Sometimes you can even find them popping up out of the snow.

Fresh flowers seem to remind you that everything is coming back to life after what seems like a long and dead winter. Though some people seem to hate winter, I see it as something that makes life what it is. Without the winter, I don’t think I would appreciate the summer and the fresh flowers as much as I do. Winter reminds me to enjoy what the warmer weather has to offer, and I try not to take one single nice day for granted because I know they will not last forever.

You can find your own fresh flowers, but you have to make sure they aren’t in someone’s yard. My daughter has a hard time understanding this concept of gifts for groomsmen, but that is understandable as she is only four years old. She wants to pick all of the fresh flowers she sees on our spring walks, and I can rarely let her pick them because they are usually in someone’s yard. Instead, I go to the florist and pick out what we have seen on our walk to bring home and put in a vase. The fresh scent of these flowers always has a pick me up effect on the entire household.

This is also the reason why so many people give fresh flowers to people on dates, or when they come to visit someone for any reason. You will be hard pressed to find anyone who does not appreciate the color and scent of fresh flowers or cool groomsmen gifts. This is why they are always appropriate. They are also popular for funerals, though I’m not entirely sure why that is. I suspect that it is a reminder that even though one life has come to an end, the world continues. Though that thought may not be welcome when you are first mourning the loss of a loved one, it certainly is a comfort in the weeks to come.

Are you a golfer who is looking for a family vacation or excursion? Let’s face it; most families are big on golf. Your children (and sometimes your spouse) are the hardest to convince that golf can be fun. While not the same, why not trying out a miniature golf course? There is usually one within driving distance from your home. For miniature golf enthusiasts, there are even vacations built around visiting putt-putt golf courses. In any case, you’ll have some time to bond with the family and get in a little putting practice.

Every miniature golf course is different and has innovative challenges. There will be windmills, bridges, ponds and other exciting obstacles to keep the whole family entertained. The last shot of the course is usually the hardest but there is sometimes a small prize for getting a hole in one or making a seemingly impossible shot.

This isn’t your typical day on the green; the putting practice isn’t the same, you won’t be practicing your golf swing and the obstacles are surely not the same. But you can still have fun. You might even be able to showoff a bit and your family might find a new appreciation to your weekends on the golf course.

Don’t take yourself (or your golf practice) too seriously at a putt-putt course. Most are there just to have a good time so if you are competitive it will just irritate your family. Also, only offer help if your family asks for it since trying to show your kids how to properly hit the ball will make them lose their interest. Though there should be someone keeping score and friendly competition can be fun, don’t worry if it’s not 100 percent accurate; again, you’re there to have fun.

You don’t have to limit putt-putt golf to just your family. It can also be fun if you invite other families of golf buddies. You can get a kick out of the seemingly easy but truly difficult holes and your kids can have fun together.

If you don’t know where the nearest putt-putt golf course is then you can easily use the internet to find one. It’s unfortunately a dying family pastime but there is usually at least one in every town. A miniature golf course outing or vacation is rather inexpensive especially compared with fees at a real golf course. You can use all the savings from your usual golf Sunday to treat the family to an hour at the arcade and a nice dinner.

Chest Workout That You Can Do At Home

Looking for a chest workout that you can do at home? Your local gym with all the machines imaginable is perfect of course, but sometimes you probably just don’t have the time or the motivation to get there. Working out at home can save you a lot of time and money.

So here is a quick but super effective alternative - and all you will need is a cheap set of dumbbells. Have the dumbbells laid out right there ready, on pillows to make them easier to pick up and put down. Pillows can also prevent damage to your floor.

Note that because the pushups will take the first flush of your energy, you will need a much lighter weight than you normally use for the dumbbell exercises.

1. Pushups

Take your position on a carpeted floor or exercise mat and do as many pushups as you can do while maintaining form. Take them slow. When you cannot do this without cheating or losing form it is time to stop.

Turn onto your back and move straight on to the dumbbell flys, no rest.

2. Flys

You should be able to do this exercise slowly, taking 3-5 seconds to raise and lower the weights, without using other parts of your body to handle the pressure. If you cannot do this you need a lighter weight.

Again do as many as you can without sacrificing form, then move straight on to the dumbbell press, do not put down the dumbbells between.

3. Dumbbell press

Start the dumbbell presses, raising the weights directly up vertically without a break, with elbows coming down onto the floor. Be sure and have your forearms vertical. Again take it slow and stop when you risk losing form.

4. Repeat

Give yourself 3-5 minutes rest and then repeat the whole series. You can do anything up to 8 reps depending on condition but expect to feel it the next day.

This workout will work your chest muscles in isolation and so maximize your muscle growth but you must be sure to use light enough weights otherwise the effect will be reduced. Doing the exercises slowly is vital for maximum growth. As with all dumbbell exercises, better to do fewer reps and do them right than rush your workout, losing the benefits and risking injuries.

Doing these dumbbell exercises on the floor will control your range of movement and help to prevent shoulder injury. However, always consult with a doctor before starting any exercise or bodybuilding program including this home chest workout.
