Decorative Plant Stands Are A Great Way To Enhance Your Decor

Plant stands are both decorative and versatile and they’re not just for plants either! You can use decorative plants stands for many uses in the home and they are perfect for adding some charm to an odd corner or small wall.  In addition, a nicely fashioned pedestal plant stand is ideal for displaying extra items when you've run out of room on your mantle or shelving.

The appeal of either a living or an artificial plant is enhanced by putting it on an attractive plant stand. Unlike live plants, silk ones will allow you to enjoy greenery without putting time into watering. But artificial plants can be a bit boring so they should have a stand to add to its character. Putting a plant on an interesting stand will help to bring the outdoors in and will add an element of softness and nature to your home.

No matter if you plan to put plants, pictures, or other items on your stand, you need to remember these cardinal rules when you set out to choose a stand. The stand should enhance whatever you are putting on it. The perfect plant stand for any type of plant is readily available, and makes it easier than ever for you to make a statement with not only your beautiful greenery, but also with your plant stands!

You also need to think about what the stand will be supporting both in weight and size. Consider the proportions of the plant in relation to the stand carefully as you want a good balance. You want to reconsider pairing a heavy, overpowering stand with a small, decorative plant. A fern, however, would look gorgeous on a pedestal that is delicate and petite.  Think about the décor of the room you will be placing your stand in too – a light airy room will look perfect with wrought iron stands, but a more formal style of décor might  look better with traditional wooden plant stands.

And don’t forget about color!  Always consider the colors of the flowers of the plants you will be displaying as well as any picture frames or plant pots or containers. Complementary colors or neutral tones should be considered when purchasing a plant stand.

Size is also important. Make sure that your plant pot will fit on top of the stand. The top of the stand needs to be a little larger than your container. This will be more aesthetically pleasing as well as more stable.

For plant stands to remain standing upright, all that is usually necessary is a solid and level floor. When displaying heavy or large items, you should take care to get a stand that can support the weight while still being appropriate for your flooring. As an example, a pedestal of light weight probably would not be the right thing if the floor has plush carpeting. If you have hardwood floors, however, this base will work just fine.

Show off your flare for style in your home by finding unique and creative ways to decorate with plant stands.  You will surely get a lot of compliments on your home and decorating ability as these little stands let you express your creative side in a big way.

A Golf Vacation For The Entire Family.

by Peter Wilson

A golfing trip can be the perfect vacation whether you’re an avid golfer or just play for fun. Even those that play golf will each prefer something different for their golf vacation.

For some, the highlight of a golf trip would be having perfect weather for golfing all day and strolling the beach at night. Golfers that are always striving to better their game may want inclement weather and many hazards on the course to make them play better under adverse conditions. They may also love the idea of playing on a course where professional golfers such as Arnold Palmer or Tiger Woods have played. Who knows whom they may run into on the course?

Golfing is a serious game for many people, men and women alike. In the past, golf was more a game enjoyed by men so couples would mix golf and travel together to get the perfect vacation. With so many different golf balls and accessories, golf no longer needs to be played only during daylight hours. There are glow-in-the dark golf balls and fluorescent golf balls, which both make playing golf at night much more fun and challenging. Because of these brightly designed balls, winter golf is more popular than ever as there is no longer the chance of not seeing the balls in the snow.

Playing golf under extreme weather conditions is something that appeals to male golfers more than the woman, although there are many women that will get right down and play in frigid temperatures right next to their male competitors. Even though most don’t enjoy the extreme cold temperatures, they realize the actual game doesn’t take that long and it will give them the opportunity to test their skills under the worst conditions.

For the more serious golfers, playing in inclement weather with many hazards is not only challenging and exciting, but a lot of fun. There are some serious precautions, however, that need to be taken to protect yourself, your family and any friends that may be with you. If the weather is excessively hot, it’s important to bring plenty of cold water or fluids to prevent dehydration and illness because of overheat. Always dress appropriately.

If the weather, however, is cold, it is equally important that you dress for the cold temperatures with plenty of layers of warm clothing. Drink warm fluids and take breaks as often as necessary. Nothing will wreck a golf vacation quicker than members of your group getting sick or worse yet, a trip to the emergency room.

Many people choose to not combine golf and travel together and prefer to just shoot some balls at their local shooting range with their friends. Playing some good competitive fun games with their friends is often what they consider a great golf vacation. No work and playing golf everyday-what more could they want?

Helpful Gas Saving Tips You Must Know

by Don Pedro

Maintaining your own car these days is not an easy thing to do. With that gas price it simply makes the life more difficult. But there is always some ways that you can go for to save gas and thus reduce your cost.

As the first step go for reducing the extra weight you car has to bear. The engine tends to consume more gas when the car has a bigger load. Seek for the extra weights and simply get rid of it.

A gas credit card can play a very effective role to save your money. You can buy gas in much more cheaper rate with a gas credit card.

Go for the normal speed while driving. Your car consumes much more gas when you tend to go for a speedy ride. But that is no good for gas saving. Driving in a medium speed doesn’t only help you to save gas but it also helps to easily stop in a traffic signal.

When you are going for a long journey always have a proper plan for the trip. Know which roads you need to follow. Without having a proper plan always pushes you to the risk of getting to the wrong road and then getting back, thus you may have to spend more money for gas than you should.

It creates more pressure on your break when you are pressing it too hard. It is going to burn more gas than usual. So always it is suggested to go at a average speed so that you don’t need to do that.

Making a hard break is not something that you want when it comes to saving gas because it tends to give extra pressure on your car which causes more gas burn out. So try to maintain a steady speed and thus you can avoid using a hard break.

You should follow the normal driving limit that is 55 mph. By doing that you can save up to 10% of your gas. Now that is a good way to save gas.

Healthy Eating Meant for Children

Healthy eating meant for children unfortunately misses the target sometimes.

As a parent, you may have done all forms of bribery, persuasion, warning or manipulation to your child just to make them eat healthy food. But wouldn’t it be nicer if we did not have to resort to such tactics?

We can give you seven smart tips to help you achieve healthy eating.

1. Begin as early as possible. It can be harder to do if you waited longer. The taste buds of children may be ruined by sweet treats and when that happens, it is really hard to get them to eat Brussels sprouts and broccoli. You can opt to choose tip # 4 if you have waited to long ? be firm ? you need to be ready for the negative reaction you may get from your kids that can last for a few days.

2. Have a supply of healthy foods inside your home. This can remove their fondness on one food or food group. It can be OK for them to have their favorite food, but offering them alternatives does help in orienting them with different food tastes. Unhealthy foods are of course out of the picture. This means no junk food should be allowed. It may only spell trouble in the long run.

3. Blend the foods that they like with the food they hate. Here is how you do it: stir fry onions with zucchini, broccoli, carrots and snow peas rather than giving them only a platter of steamed broccoli. To make sure that your child gets some carrots with his or her zucchini, you should slice it into small pieces.

4. Be fervent! If you cannot impose firm-love, your plan will fail. You will need to inform your child that this is what you cooked for dinner and that is it. There is no other available food. If you only have healthy food in your home, it can work. Since there are no other options and they get hungry, they have no other choice but to eat what you served.

5. Do not permit your kid to go near people who will sabotage your plan. Some people just seem to find contentment over the fact that they can offer your kid sweet treats. And yes, even your doctors and dentists do this. What you can do is to teach your child to say “No thank you”. If a close relative is doing the same thing, you may threaten them you will stop visiting if they won’t stop.

6. Restrict your child from watching TV commercials. Yes, commercials. These commercials are the source for nutritional education of 95% of the populace. Whenever children watch kiddie shows, they get to see junk foods being advertised as delicious food to eat and it can affect their craving for the right food.

7. Be a great example. This is the most vital tip. Children will never give up on candy and ice cream if they can see their parents are not doing it too. You can only get them to eat fish, veggies and whole grains if they see you eating it too. While young, you will have to show them how a good role model you are.

If you have not been a good role model, then you have no right to get angry over the poor eating habits of your child, obesity, ADHD and you will often be absent from work when they get sick.

Love yourself more, strive to eat healthy!

Find Out How To Build A Shed In Only 10 Steps

by Cody Bolton

So you need a garden shed to keep your outdoor items decently sheltered. You have surfed around to see whats accessible, but you simply cannot obtain one that befits your wants. Well, thats no trouble. You can establish one yourself ,even if you’re not a carpenter. All that is compulsory is ,for you to conform to some quick and easy step by step plans, and you will have it constructed in no time.

Step One
Is to control where you want to make it. You need to have a delegated area plotted out before you set about. What space you have ready will influence the maximum size you can construct it.

Part two
Once you recognise your exact size its a effective idea to rough sketch what you require. There are numerous home improvement stores that you can take your sketch to. They will outline up your storage shed plan for you, corresponding to the specifications you provide them with. They will also provide you with a list of materials that you will want. By now, you’ll have the shed plans in your hand and they will provide you with a guide on how to execute each step.

Part Three
Purchase the items you will need as defined in your plan. its a great idea to have everything at hand so you dont have to keep going out for supplies once you commence building.

Part Four
You are now ready to commence. Level your ground and ready to lay the grounding. You would have already decided whether you are going to have a wood plank floor or concrete slab type.

Step Five
The sides wall comes next. Place your items away that you are going to use for this. It is better to build the walls on the ground then lift them into position once they are together. Just conform to your guide for the how to instructions.

Part Six
Now its time to start out work the roof. You will need to build your trusses. So build one and then use it as a guide for the rest. Remember to double check with your instructional guide on how to build up the trusses.

Step Seven
Your storage shed should now be taking on some form. Its time to build the end walls. How you do this will count on what you have took in your plans. Be sure to stay with your original plans.

Step Eight
Now you are getting down to the closing steps. The trim is just as essential as the rest of your structure. Its what gives it that finished look so dont scrimp here.

Step Nine
Your last 2 steps are employing the shingles for the roof then treating the wood. This is a very fundamental step so listen up: The wood must have some kind of protective coating on it to protect it from the elements and decomposition. This can be varnish, stains or paints whatever is your taste.

Step Ten
You’re finally done! All thats left is to sit back and admire your finished storage shed. If you hadnt constructed it yourself you might actually think it was a ready made shed bought from the store.

Is Organic Gardening Something For You?

Organic gardening can be different things to different people. Some have it as a little hobby and grow a bunch of fine flowers for the fun of it. Then there are those who get serious about it and set out to grow their own food that way.

The interest in organic gardening has grown over the years. Although organically grown food can be found in supernarkets, many still prefer to produce their own. There is a special satisfaction in growing something that way, and knowing exactly how it was produced.

When doing organic gardening, you use neither pesticides, chemical fertilizers or other man-made additives. There are pest problems sometimes, but there are ways of dealing with them naturally.

People have been doing fine over the centuries without those chemicals. It is a matter of knowing what to do - like, to get rid of aphids you can for example grow marigolds next to the vegetable patch.

Many people are concerned about all the chemicals used in agriculture. Some of them may find their way into the food we eat, too. Organic gardening means you and your family don’t need to worry about such problems.

Organic gardening will involve the mysterious world of compost making. This is much more interesting than grabbing a bag of chemical fertilizer. It’s not such a dark art really, you just need to know what to use, and the more variety there is the better.

Basically, it’s a great way of using up garden and kitchen waste material. You can use your own potato and other vegetable peelings. Rose prunings will help with the texture and coffee grounds will improve the smell! Make sure all the ingredients are dry.

There are other tips for organic gardening. For the constant fight against weeds and to keep the soil healthy, you can make your own mulch by making a mixture of pine needles and grass clippings. You can also spray pests with a concoction of cooking oil, dishwasher soap and water.

Even if all you have is a tiny piece of land, organic gardening lets you feel a connection with nature - something many of us lost when we got used to going to the supermarket and those plastic-wrapped products. We feel there is a better way.

Choosing A Plant For Your Yard

There is no doubt that you can save money by doing your own landscaping. You can also beautify your property at the same time. You can not only enhance your home but it can also prove to be a source of exercise and a way to enjoy the fresh air. When you do your own yard care, you save money and improve your own physical condition. However, if you are not satisfied with the results, then you have wasted time and money. It is possible that with a few tips you can ensure your yard will look better and learn how to better care for your yard as well.

First of all, it is important that you know what type of soil you have. Some plants and shrubs thrive in acidic soil, while others prefer a bit more alkalinity in the soil. There is also sandy soil and soil with clay in it, as well as loamy soil, and this can all factor into making a difference in what kinds of plants will be able to live in your soil. You need to have your soil tested and evaluated, in order to figure out what kinds of plants and vegetation should be planted.

When you buy plants that succeed in your current soil, then you end up saving money wisely and have a more attractive yard. If there are plants that you are considering, but your soil condition is not ideal, it is possible to improve soil and get it to the proper condition. You may only need to add mulch, limestone or clamshells, depending upon what you need to have happen. If it is possible to not a great difference between what you want and what you have, it may be possible to made more accommodating adjustments.

You also need to understand how much backyard space each plant will need. Some plants will require more room for their roots and others do not. You should choose a plant that tends to grow heartily everywhere, and if you do not have enough space, you may find your other vegetation is overcrowded and they may choke out and die. Make sure you completely understand the spacing needs for in between plants. Many smaller trees, landscaping bushes and shrubbery need to have at least 3-4 feet between them to have enough room to grow properly.

How To Water Houseplants

As has been mentioned before, you will want to select house plants that fit the environment and not the other way around. The temperature range in your home is very important to whether or not your plants will flourish. Plants also need “fresh air”, and exposure to gases, smoke and dust can damage your plants. Over time, air pollutants can be very harmful to your plants.

Remember to water all your potted plants from above the pot. The only exception to this concept is an African Violet plant, because exposing the leaves to water can be very damaging. It is hard to give them a proper watering without splashing them.

In other cases, watering from the top is the best way to be successful. Be sure that your potted plant is never filled with dirt higher than an inch from the top of the pot.

The best way to ensure a proper soaking of a plant, is to fill it to the brim and to allow the water to soak down to the roots until the extra water flows out of the drain holes at the bottom of the pot.

For plants that prefer being watered from the bottom, the process is just the reverse. You pour the water into the drainage pan at the bottom of the pot. You allow it to soak up through the dirt and then the soil on top will be damp to the touch. Once this is accomplished, you can rest assured your plant is properly wet.

Never allow water to stand in the drainage dish, this will cause the cause damage to the roots. Be especially careful to avoid this with any plants housed in a jardiniere. After a period of an hour, lift the pot from the drainage dish and check to make sure there is no extra water left over.

There is another method you can use when watering, it is called wick watering. This is a relatively newer system that uses a thick braided wick, to provide even watering all the way to the roots. You can even buy pots for plants that are designed strictly for this purpose at your local gardening store. The pot is on a covered saucer, on which the pots is placed, and then filled with water. The wick extends from the saucer through to the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. As soil gets drier, water is gradually absorbed through the wick and distributed through the soil

Proper temperature is also very important, you want to keep your plants exposed to room temperatures or slight warmer. Do not water plants with cold water, because this can cause them to blight. If your tap water is “hard”, it is a good idea to install a water softener to rectify the situation.

How Easy is Growing Indoor House Plants?

by Thomas Fryd

You have probably heard how easy it is to grow houseplants or an indoor garden many times. I’m sure you’ve been regaled with how simple it is to do. If you’re afraid you don’t have a green thumb, don’t worry. All the talk you’ve heard about how easy and simple it is was true. You can grow indoor plants easily. You just need to know a few basic things about how to do it right.

Growing houseplants is very easy and requires only that you be interested in doing so and have a willingness to learn about it. Anyone can build birdhouses, fix a flat tire, sew their own clothes, or do just about anything else if they really want to. Houseplants and indoor gardens are no different. Once you learn the basics, you can plunge in and enjoy watching the fruits of your labor bloom.

Even if you live in a basement or in the Arctic Circle, it’s possible to grow indoor plants using some technologies available on the market. Things like hydroponics and UV lights can work wonders with even the most limited spaces when it comes to growing indoor plants or gardens.

The rules for gardening are not hard-and-fast and results will usually vary from person to person, garden to garden. Indoor planting is no different and this is one of the charms of doing it: every plant, every room, and every gardener is different, every time. When you grow a successful plant in your home, you’ll feel a thrill knowing that it did well because of your skill and ability and not because you can read directions and color by numbers.

The choices of plants, configurations, and arrangements are limitless, so this is where your imagination can really shine. It’s all about your personal taste and what you think will look good in your home, plus a little experimentation. There are a few guidelines to follow as far as growing and caring for the plants, however, and we’ll cover that next.

Knowing your plant’s preferences to light, humidity, soil, watering, and so forth is the number one skill to learn in order to successfully grow indoor plants and gardens. When deciding what kinds of plants or seeds to get, these are the factors that need to be considered, along with the intended location of the plant and how much time and energy you’ve got to care for it. Most plants do well in most areas, with a few exceptions for exotics or specialty plants.

Consider the space you want the plant to occupy. What kind of window does it have and which direction does that window face? North- and east-facing windows mean not much light will get to the plant daily, so low-light and perhaps colder weather plants are a good choice here. The opposite is true for south- or west-facing windows. This time, Schefflera arboricola and other varieties of arboricola which prefers higher light is suitable here. Knowing how much light it will get is paramount to choosing the right plant for the situation.

Now consider how humid or dry your home and the room the plant will occupy is. Bathrooms and kitchens tend to be more humid than other rooms in the home, so take that into consideration when looking at plants. Whatever your climate and home’s conditions, though, there will be plenty of plants to choose from.

So have fun and plant an indoor garden or houseplant today!

Quick Ideas To Make Your Home More Green

by Isla Hitchcock

Current gas prices and new reports of global warming have put increased attention on helping the environment. The problem seems so large and so complicated that you may be thinking, what can one person do? Surprisingly, there’s much you can do.

One of the best places to start is your own home. It just takes a few days of work to help make your house environmentally sound, and the benefits can last for years - it can even increase the value of your home. Here are five tips to start:

Installing solar panels on either your roof or another convenient nearby structure saves electricity, money, and fossil fuels. Sunshine is collected and converted to usable household electricity, where it may be used immediately. When more electricity is created than used, public utility companies sometimes buy excess power from you, depending on how your solar panels are set up. Buy a cheap solar panel for an economical way to make this upgrade to your home. If going for a used option, ensure it is in good working order first.

Collect rainwater. Placing rain barrels under your downspouts can collect hundreds of gallons of water, which can be used to water your plants or wash your car. Most rain barrels sold in stores have a spigot that makes it easy to get the water out.

Make your house more air-tight. You want to make sure that cold air stays in the house during summer and outside during the winter. Make sure your insulation is thick enough and installed in walls and the attic. Fill all cracks and gaps around doors and windows with caulk and weatherstripping.

Finally, replacing standard incandescent light bulbs with flourescent ones, at least where they are most used, can save energy because they use less electricity to create the same amount of light with gas-filled tubes rather than heated filaments.

Also, there are even easier things that can be done to make your house environmentally friendly. Things as easy as turning off lights when you exit a room or turning the water off whilst brushing your teeth can also help.

Some of these ideas may not seem like a big deal, but each bit helps, and over many months or years, they will make a difference. Check online or visit your library to learn more. Before long, you’ll be able to feel better about doing your part in protecting the environment.
